5 Reasons Why I LOVE my New Camera

This past Christmas, my boyfriend bought me a new camera to use for my blog. My old one was….well old. It didn’t take very good pictures, with most of them turning out blurry. Now, it took good pictures back in its hayday (in 2006), but those glory days are over.

When I opened my camera on Christmas, I was introduced to the tiniest camera I’ve ever seen. It was a Nikon COOLPIX S01 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Zoom. “It’s got wi-fi, so you can transfer the pictures quicker and easier to your computer” my boyfriend professed to me  as I inspected the new goods. Sadly, the camera person at the store was either lying or misinformed because the camera did not have wi-fi. It was a nice camera and would have been perfect if I wasn’t pumped out about having the wi-fi feature. My boyfriend insisted that I return it and pick out a new camera that had all the features I wanted.

After doing some researching, I decided upon the Canon PowerShot ELPH 320 HS 16.1 MP Wi-Fi Enabled CMOS Digital Camera. Now, I’m no photographer (head on over to my lessons learned post and come on back after reading about my terrible photography escapades), but I couldn’t be happier about my camera. Here’s why I love my new camera:

1. Wi-fi capabilities

Camera to Computer

The first and foremost reason why I love my camera is that it has the ability to transfer pictures to my computer (or my make-believe iPad) wirelessly. No need to break out cables, I can just take a picture and send it to my laptop. It transfers photos at the same speed as the cable and I can directly import them into iPhoto.

Camera to Facebook or Twitter

I don’t own a smartphone (yet), so I was thrilled when I figured out how to transfer pictures from my camera to Facebook or Twitter (you can also post to YouTube or email a photo), wirelessly of course :-). I haven’t made a video yet, but I’ll be excited to test the transfer speed when I make my first video tutorial later down the road.

Camera to Camera

I haven’t used this feature, but hey, it’s nice to know I have it :-).

2. I can take beautiful close-up photos.

I feel like this camera does an excellent job picking up details in close-ups and the auto-focus is great! This is a photo I took for my Pretzel Necklace post and is one of my favorite photos so far.

And just look at this lovely photo I took for my lentils post. Aren’t they beautiful?

3. It’s quick.

This does a great job taking photos without lag time. I can even set it to take multiple images if I’m taking a moving shot.

4. It’s light and attractive.

For a point and shoot, it’s small, sleek, and doesn’t weigh a ton.

5. It wasn’t crazy expensive.

For my needs, it exceeded my expectations and didn’t leave me strapped for cash. The price for this camera is going down as the industry gets ready to debut newer models, so now’s a good time to shop if you don’t mind not having the latest and greatest.

I’m still learning how to take better photos, but I feel more confident now that I have a camera that makes taking pictures even more fun!

What kind of cameras have you had over the years?
